Taken from a family Bible owned by John Riley Van Hooser (b 1843,
Olive Twp, Madison Co, IL d 1909, Olive Twp, Madison Co, IL) The
Bible was passed to John Van Hooser by his mother, Nancy Jane Olive
Van Hooser, second wife of John Riley; apparently the Bible was
originally the property of John Riley and his first wife, Mary Ricks
since their marriage certificate is contained in it. From John Van
Hooser the Bible was passed to Homer Van Hooser, and subsequently to
me. There are at least three persons' handwriting in the pages,
indicating the entries made by John Riley, Nancy Jane (Olive), John,
and Rhoda (Jones Eardley) Van Hooser. All attempts have been made to
reproduce the entries exactly as they are entered, with the
exception of [omitted] entries for those still living.
Marriage Certificate:
This is to certify that John R. Van Hooser and Miss Mary Ricks were
solemnly united by me in the Holy Bonds of matrimony at
Edwardsville, Illinois on the 4th day of September in the year of
our Lord, One Thousand eight Hundred and Sixty Seven conformably to
the Ordinance of God and the Laws of the State.
