Levi Cemetery, Godfrey Township

The Levi Cemetery is located in Godfrey Township, one half mile down Riehl Lane (on the left hand side), on a private farm. The cemetery has only one stone left standing, which belongs to *Elizabeth Ann Levi. According to a recent land owner, her grandfather told her there was a smallpox outbreak, and there are many children buried in the Levi Cemetery. The Levi family allowed people who could not afford a public cemetery plot to be buried on their property. Unfortunately, a previous land owner used the cemetery as part of his cow pasture, and the stones and cemetery were destroyed.

Levi Cemetery

This is a photo of the tombstone of Elizabeth Ann Levi in the Levi Cemetery. It is at the bottom of a hill, near a small creek.

The picture was taken in 2003. I do not believe the cemetery is actually at the bottom of this hill, but rather

at the top of the hill, which is where the cow pasture was.

Wherever the cemetery is, may they all rest in peace.
